My First Solo Show - What it Means and How it Feels

At this time last year, I created a vision board about where I wanted to take my art. I wrote "I want my work to be visceral and powerful. Dramatic from a distance, filled with strong lights and darks, but close up the work is multi-layered and textural. I want a sense of boldness, drama and energy."After writing that, I began an exploration - an exploration of paint, an exploration of my own emotions, and an exploration of this beautiful, wild place where I live. There have been tears and there have been moments of real joy. There have been paintings that have been sanded back multiple times. There have been a few that now lay discarded, but most of them became the paintings I feel they were always meant to be.Now they are about to be shown together for the first time at Mill Bridge Gallery in Skipton. This is my first solo show and I finished hanging it yesterday. I'm delighted to say that when I look around the gallery I see exactly what I described on that vision board. The work is bold and emotional and filled with drama. It is multi-layered and complex, It expresses who I am, but it also expresses the power and vitality of this wonderful landscape.I feel emotional about this event. I can't wait for it to open and - if you live anywhere within travelling distance, I'd love to see you there. The gallery is Mill Bridge Gallery in Skipton and it is open Thursday to Saturday 11-4pm, but you are welcome at other times by appointment. Just shoot me an email. If you live too far away, here is your own private view xx
