Studio Notes: Starting a Commission

In this week's video, I'm sharing the start of a special painting. This is one that I am making as a commission. The client likes my work and loved a few paintings in particular but they were either the wrong colour or the wrong size. He has a specific room in mind, which he is currently decorating, and he wants the painting to coordinate with that room, and also to be large enough.Initially, I explained that I don't take on commissions (I have always felt the pressure to create something specific doesn't fit with my style of working) but having given it some thought, I realized that I could do something that felt a little more flexible. So I suggested to him that I create a piece based on his colours and general preferences, and that he would be welcome to buy it if he liked it. If not, I could sell it to someone else. He was very happy with this idea and I am intrigued by the challenge. So today I made a start and I filmed it for this week's studio notes. In reality this was an hour's work, but I thought that would get a little tedious!Let's see where it goes from here!
