View From Your Studio - Jill Wilkinson
This week's studio space is gorgeous - both the inside and the outside version! Jill Wilkinson was kind enough to share with us. She writes:"My Space is a converted integral single garage in our home which is five minutes walk from the beach and downs on the south-west coast of the Isle of Wight. It measures approximately 16’L x 8’W x 7’H with sliding patio doors at one end, a side window and double-door entry point which means there isn’t a huge amount of wall space to work large-scale which is a pity, but there is enough space and it is ‘my space’ so I am not complaining! I often work in my ‘open air’ studio, down on the beach, on the landslip if the tide is up, or in a nook in our local ‘downs’. I see these areas as ‘my places’ as I rarely see anyone and I feel I can spread my work and materials out, confinement is no longer a problem. I am an artist whose work is often seen as chaotic or ‘very busy’, (my days of making minimalist artwork seem to have slipped away). I am passionate about aspects of nature and get excited by the smallest things. When I am working in the landscape I am restricted by what I can carry so I often adapt my usual methods of working by using whatever is to hand - found objects, twigs and feathers make up for the numerous brushes I have left behind in the studio, and local coloured clays, mud or plant juices complete my range of earth pigments to add to charcoal, graphite and inks."You can learn more about Jill and see her beautiful artwork on her website at www.jillwilkinson.net.
