Welcome to
the “mad woman” series
What if we reclaimed the colour pink?
How would it feel to see pink not as the colour of Barbie and bubblegum and cute nursery walls, but as the colour of female power?
How would it feel for us to stand up and say “I am equally worthy of respect and attention and I deserve to take up space.”
How would it feel for us to express our emotions clearly and without fear? How would it feel to dismiss those who gaslight, and wear our anger proudly?
These were the questions that guided this series of paintings, which were initially inspired by the music of Taylor Swift. Swift has spoken about the expectations placed upon women, about how we are expected to simply absorb bad male behaviour. And about how our reaction to bad behavior is often treated as an offence in itself. (Be honest - how many times have you heard “you’re over-reacting?”)
In this video, I share more of the story behind this new work. Come and join me at my kitchen table and let’s talk about female rage!

There are six paintings in this series, all inspired by Taylor’s songs and all focused on the unique experience of women.
Each painting came from the heart. Each painting sprang from my personal experience AND from my responses to Taylor’s lyrics. These are songs that pierce holes in my heart - songs that speak directly to my own experience of being a woman.
Section from “Old Habits Die Screaming”

Each painting is titled after a song that has personal meaning for me. Each one forms part of the soundtrack of my life for different reasons.
I created a playlist to accompany the paintings and you can listen here

These are my experiences, but I hope that the imagery and the titles will resonate with you. I hope you can find your own unique connection to one of these pieces.
